Elena Maria Lopez is an immigration fraud victim turned whistleblower.  Her whistleblowing led to federal indictments,  congressional investigations, and U.S. Senate hearings in 2011 and 2017.  She uncovered national security cases tied to immigration loopholes sought by the FBI and the White House.    

Lopez is a former political journalist and financial writer.

Elena Maria Lopez was  almost killed by her Dutch husband after she sponsored him into the  United States.  He admitted marrying her for a green card, then attacked  and terrorized her to keep her quiet. 

To keep her safe, the State of  New Jersey put her in hiding.

The Department of Homeland Security warned  he was "dangerous," but refused to enforce his fraudulent immigration  status despite his extensive criminal activities. Instead, the DHS illegally gave Lopez's sensitive personal information to media organizations and dumped it on the Internet.

As a whistleblower, she uncovered national security cases tied to immigration loopholes. The FBI sought them from her in 2016; She twice presented the cases at White House meetings in 2018.

Lopez first warned congressional leaders of the loopholes in 2006 and the national security clusters starting in 2012.   Lawmakers not only refused to close the temporary loopholes responsible – which allow foreigners to bypass background checks, hide national-security threats, waive criminal activities, and get fast-tracked citizenship – but made them permanent law in 2013. Since then, congress, the courts and successive presidents have expanded such loopholes.

Lopez  testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee about her own case in 2017.
